Week 37!


1A students and families sure know how to make a teacher feel loved and appreciated!!! Thank you all so much for all of the beautiful flowers, sweet notes, staff lunches and sweet treats all week long.  We sure felt spoiled and am so thankful for such wonderful Arete students and families.  Thank you for all that you do to make Arete a great place to teach and learn!

With just two weeks left, we will continue to earnestly seek the truth, beauty and goodness that our learning have to offer!

Announcements

Clubs: The final day of clubs was Friday, May 11 (exception: K-1 Art).

Reading Bags: This will be our last week sending home the red book bags with a new leveled reading book. Please make sure all leveled readers and chapter books are returned by this Friday, 5/18, Thank you! 
 
Academics

Math: This week we will begin our last unit in math to learn about money! We will learn about the values of coins and bills and practice using them to create and compare different amounts of money.  We will also begin working on our end of year cumulative math exam. Students will work on this a little bit each day and will be guided through the process and review the topics from the beginning and middle of the year. 

 Poem: My Shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson Idiom: Hit the Nail on the Head

Writing:   Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence. We will read and write about sections from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl and "Socks" by Beverly Cleary 

Grammar:  This week we will continue to write complete sentences using proper grammar, capital letters, and punctuation marks.

Tuesday: number, October, reason, fifth, baking, bake, bowl, cheap, cheerful, chicken

Wednesday: driving, drive, echoes, echo, fairy, knock, leather, linen, mixture, nation

Literature: We will read The Pied Piper of Hamelin, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and In Which Pooh Invents a New Game and Eeyore Joins In. Students will complete various comprehension skills for each story.  This week will also be our last week of reading groups.  Thank you to all of the parents who have committed their time and talent to our reading groups this year.  We are so thankful for you!

Science: This week we are finishing up astronomy with a solar system project and we will be doing an overview of electricity on Thursday!

History: This week will be all about our lovely state, Arizona!  We will learn about various state symbols, the state flower, state bird and the 5 C’s of Arizona.  As students learn about state 48, they will compile their knowledge into a state project to take home on Friday.
