Week 35
We have had a full week full of book fair fun and a delightful parent volunteer social! We are looking forward to seeing our scholars shine during our music concert on Wednesday. See you there!
Announcements
Toilet Paper Rolls: We are collecting empty toilet paper rolls for an upcoming project. Thank you in advance for your help and sending the rolls in with your child over the next few weeks!
Astronomy Night: Arete Prep will be hosting Astronomy night on Friday, May 4th from 7:00 - 9:30 pm. Archway Arete and Arete Prep families are welcome to enjoy a walk-in Planetarium in the MPR, meteorites on display, telescopic observation on the field, scale of the solar system, impact crater demonstration, an astronaut experience and much more!
Music Concert: K-2nd grade concert at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 2nd. Please have students arrive promptly at 5:00pm.
Attire: Boys- Black pants, white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and black socks. Hair should be combed neatly. Optional: dark solid colored neckties or vests. Girls- Black shirt, white top and black closed- toed dress shoes. Hair should be pulled away from the face with no distracting adornment. Please follow the Archway Arete dress code for guidelines on jewelry.

Academics
Math: This week we will be working on building our subtraction skills! We will learn about and practice the process for subtracting a one digit number from a two digit number and subtracting one two digit number from another two digit number.
Poem: My Shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson Idiom: Hit the Nail on the Head
Writing: Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence. We will read and write about sections from two poems called "The Sandpiper" by Celia Thaxter and "The Nightingale and the Glow Worm" by William Cowper. We will also read and write about "King Arthur and The Knights of the Round Table" by Roger Lancelyn Green.
Grammar: This week we will be learning about pronouns and how they can be used in place of a noun. We will learn how to use pronouns when speaking to and about someone. For example, we might use the pronoun "we" when talking about a group of people or we might use the pronoun "I" when referring to ourselves instead of using our name.

History: We will review what we have learned about westward expansion and take a quiz on Wednesday. A review sheet will be sent home on Monday. On Friday, we will learn about Benjamin Franklin and his many inventions.
