Week 33

The scholars of 1A worked incredibly hard last week as we enjoyed wrapping up our unit on the American Revolution.  We are looking forward to going on an adventure  next week as we begin reading My Father's Dragon! 


I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather we had over the weekend! 
Academics
Math: We will start the week by taking a unit test on time, we will make sure to review amply before taking this test due to the weekend. We will practice counting within 100 by making tens. We will review place value and read and write number symbols and their corresponding number words. 

 Poem: Rope Rhyme Idiom: Land of Nod

Writing:   Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence. We will read and write about sections from "All of a Kind Family" by Sydney Taylor and "The Crocodile and The Monkey" from the Buddhist Jataka Tales. Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence. 

Grammar:  This week we will learn about contractions and compound words. Students will learn that a contraction is when two words are shortened in to one word using an apostrophe and that a compound word is when two or more words that have their own meanings are combined to make one new word.

Monday: ready, omit, anyway, eight, breakfast, chance, climb, coffee, color, contains

Tuesday: daily, day, eagle, fancy, fly, forest, freeze, gentle, grow, holes

Wednesday: hotel, iron, living, live, monkey, myself, noise, pencil, pie, pull

phonograms: ea, eigh, ai, ay, or, y, ee, ow, oa, ey

Literature: We will begin reading My Father’s Dragon this week! On Wednesday, students will bring home a paper sack and instructions to fill the bag with items that they would bring on an adventure.

Science: This week students in science we are beginning to learn about the planets.

History: We will begin our westward expansion unit.  Students will learn about Daniel Boone, The Louisiana Purchase and the Louis and Clark expedition.
