Week 30!

We had such a fun first week of the 4th quarter! It has been wonderful to see how focused the scholars of 1A have been on learning, listening, and showing respect!

Academics

Math: This week we will begin a new unit in math! We will start learning about concepts of division by practicing separating items into equal groups. For example, when given 10 m&m's, how can two friends each end up with the same amount so that they share equally and fairly? 

Poem: Sing a song of People by Lois Lenski   Idiom: A.M., P.M.

Writing:  Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence. We will read and write about sections of The Tale of Benjamin Bunny by Beatrix Potter. We will review abbreviations and how to use them in a sentence.

Grammar:  We will continue to learn about adverbs and how they help us describe "when", "where", and "how" something can happen. 

Spalding: 

Monday: happen, begun, collect, file, provide, sight, stood, fixed, fix, born

Tuesday: goes, does, Tuesday, hold, drill, army, pretty, stole, income, bought

Literature: We will finish reading George the Drummer Boy and compare and contrast the book to Sam the Minuteman.

Science: This week we will begin our unit on astronomy as we observe the day and night sky as well as studying the sun. 

History: We will continue to study the colonist’s journey to the American Revolution. We will learn about how the colonies united and Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride!
