Week 28!

With one week left before spring break, the 1A scholars will continue to work hard and focus on learning! 

Academics

Math: This week we will write number sentences and create number and picture stories for multiplication problems. We will continue to learn about the concept of equal groups and solve repeated addition and multiplication problems. 

Poem: Sing a song of People by Lois Lenski   Idiom: A.M., P.M.

Writing:  Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence.  We will read and write about sections of "How to Eat Fried Worms" by Thomas Rockwell and "The Happy Hollisters" by Jerry West.

Grammar:  We will review how to write in complete sentences using appropriate punctuation, grammar, and handwriting. We will take an assessment of all 70 phonograms. 

Literature: We will read “Sam the Minuteman”. We will explore the genre of historical fiction and prepare ourselves for our next history unit as we read this selection. Please ensure that your child brings their copy of this book to school.

Spalding:  Monday: next, indeed, four, herself, power, wish, because, cause, world, country

Tuesday: meet, meat, another, tripped, trip, list, people, ever, held, church

Wednesday: once, one, own, before, know, no, were, where, there, here 

Science: The week we are beginning a new unit of study in science! We will be diving into the study of different scientists and their biographies. This week we will study Edward Jenner and Louis Pasteur. We will listen to their contributions to science and our world.

History: This week we will continue to learn about the early colonists as we touch on the use of slaves and the Puritan colonies.  We will review and take an assessment on Friday.  A review guide will be sent home on Monday.
