Week 26!

1A scholars had a wonderful day celebrating friendship and being great hearted!  Thank you to all of the parents who helped make the day a huge success! Although Great Hearts day has passed, we look forward to continuing to embody the virtue of friendship as we finish the rest of February!  

Academics

Math: This week we will continue to subtract and add two digit numbers with one digit numbers. We will continue to identify tens and ones in two digit numbers. We will also learn how to add three one digit numbers and practice counting forward and backwards by twos in an effort to prepare ourselves for learning multiplication later on this quarter.

Poem: The Swing by Robert Louis Stevenson  Idiom: An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Writing:  Students will be able to understand the basic conventions of a proper sentence and rewrite a model sentence.  We will read and write about sections of "Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain and "The Velveteen Rabbit" by Margery Williams Bianco

Grammar:  This week we will use adjectives to describe different items and pictures. We will work to differentiate between nouns, verbs, and adjectives and understand how we use each of them independently of one another. 

Literature: We will read the last pages of A Bargain for Frances and complete various comprehension activities to conclude the book.

Spalding:  Tuesday: war, summer, above, express, turn, lesson, half, father, anything, table 
Wednesday: high, June, right, write, wrote, date, road, rode, ride, March, march

History: This week we will learn about how Pizarro discovered the New World and defeated the Aztecs. We will also begin to learn about England’s reason for exploration.

Class SuppliesWith more than half of the school year behind us, we are running a bit low on  No. 2 pencils, baby wipes, and crayons. We would be grateful for any of these item donations. Thank you!
